Carbs : "a fuel for life"

Carbs is one of the 3 macronutrients that are essential for body operations.

The consumption of sugar induces an increase of the levels of sugar in the blood, we call it the insulin peak. Then, the insulin released will decrease the level of sugar in the blood and bring it to normal.

We find carbs in fruits, vegetables, tubers, cereals, dairy products, rice and pasta, leguminous plants, process industry food…Etc. Then you see that carbs cannot only be qualitative foodstuff but also refined sugar products.

Even if a can of soda or a potato ear both considered as carbs, but you might know that they do not contain the same amount of vitamins, minerals and micronutrients.

The quantity of carbs to consumer each day depends on the energy need. Once we have determined this value, you can adapt your diet to integrate more or less volume of carbs food. Besides, the more important the professional or physical activity is, the more energy you will need, and the more carbs you will be able to consume.

For example: by sitting all day long, and by not doing sport session, we can reduce the volume of carbs over the day. Then, if you sit all day long but you have a sport session at the end of the day, it would be the contrary (increase carbs volume), and in this case it would interesting to consume carbs around that training session (before and/or after) in order to optimize the availability of the energy, and to build back up glycogene stocks.

In our diet, the consumption of foods high in carbohydrates are an important of a healthy diet. As we have already seen, carbohydrates are important for glucose, and energy to support vital functions.

We should avoid to consume carbs that are not proactive for our body functions and that will more damage our body in the long run that give us the good nutrients necessary for a well operating “machine”, our body. That’s why on a daily basis, there is a necessity to keep it for punctual moments. Therefore, nutrition is also about pleasure, that’s why giving in to temptation is also physically (taste) and mentally positive (last over time if you don't want to fail your new routine implementation).
